D-Prize is designed for new organizations, with a focus on supporting first-time entrepreneurs. Most of the awardees are individuals who have not yet launched their organizations or secured other funding. D-Prize especially encourages applicants from low- and middle-income countries. Applications from existing organizations will be considered only if their core focus is distributing an existing, evidence-based poverty intervention. Typically, D-Prize does not support organizations that have been operating full-time for more than 18 months or have raised over $30,000 USD in external funding.
