About

The Africa Go Green Fund (AGGF) is a debt financing platform dedicated to promoting private investments in energy efficiency (EE) and renewable energy (RE) projects across Africa. Initiated by KfW on behalf of the German government, AGGF aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by providing tailored financial solutions to corporate and industrial entities, local financial institutions, and other businesses engaged in eligible EE and RE initiatives. AGGF has a Pan-African focus, with a priority on investments in West African countries participating in the Compact with Africa initiative. Investment Focus: Energy Efficiency (EE): AGGF invests in sectors such as green transport (e-mobility), green housing (energy-efficient buildings), green appliances and solutions (clean cooking, solar applications), and industrial energy efficiency projects that achieve at least a 25% improvement in energy efficiency or GHG reduction relative to a defined benchmark. Renewable Energy (RE): The fund supports both grid-connected and off-grid projects developed by independent power producers or distributors utilizing renewable sources like hydro, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, or biomass. Financial Instruments: Senior and Mezzanine Debt: Providing medium to long-term loans tailored to the specific needs of partner institutions. Guarantees: Offering credit enhancements to catalyze additional private sector investment.
