Innovation Against Poverty (AIP)

Innovations Against Poverty (IAP) is a challenge fund managed by SNV in partnership with Inclusive Business Sweden and BoP Innovation Centre. IAP encourages the private sector to develop innovative products, services, and business models that contribute to the fight against poverty and climate change. The program supports companies in creating inclusive business models that integrate low-income communities into their value chains, aiming to deliver scalable, commercially viable solutions.

Funding Amount

IAP offers matching grants ranging from €50,000 to €200,000 to businesses ready to scale their inclusive innovations. Applicants must be able to co-invest at least 51% of the total project cost, either through cash or in-kind contributions.

Target

The program focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Zambia.

Focus Areas

  • Clean energy at the household and community levels, including improved and clean cooking solutions.
  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation.
  • Enhanced food security, nutrition, and regenerative agriculture.
  • Women or youth entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
  • Business models in water, sanitation, hygiene, and waste management.
  • Businesses that incorporate financial inclusion or digitalisation elements within these themes are also considered.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Legally registered enterprises operating in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda, or Zambia.
  • Ability to match at least 51% of the total project cost through cash or in-kind contributions.
  • Projects should present innovative products, services, or business models that address challenges faced by low-income communities.
  • Demonstrated potential for scalability and financial sustainability.
  • Clear benefits to low-income populations, either by providing access to essential goods and services or by integrating them into the value chain as suppliers, distributors, retailers, or customers.
